چکیده

Extracts of representative bacterial strains from the various families of photosynthetic prokaryotes are demonstrated to possess significant levels of sulfite reductase [EC 1.8.99.1; hydrogen-sulfide: (acceptor)oxidoreductase] activity with reduced methyl viologen as electron donor, but not NADPH(2). The enzyme is localized primarily in the soluble fraction of the extracts, in contrast to adenylysulfate reductase [EC 1.8.99.2; AMP, sulfite: (acceptor) oxidoreductase], which is bound normally in the membrane fractions of those bacteria in which it is found. Assignment of the sulfite reductase activities to the biosynthetic ("assimilatory") pathway is suggested by levels of specific activity noted and ready solubility.

Antimicrobial activity of Cyanobacteria isolated from hot spring of Geno

Cyanobacteria, the blue green algae are one of the most diverse groups of Gram-negative photosynthetic prokaryotes widely distributed throughout the world. Cyanobacteria are known to produce a wide range of secondary metabolites with various biological actions. The aim of this study was to test extracts from various cyanobacteria isolated from Geno hot spring, Bandar Abbas (Iran) against a dive...

Sulfite oxidation in the purple sulfur bacterium Allochromatium vinosum: identification of SoeABC as a major player and relevance of SoxYZ in the process.

In phototrophic sulfur bacteria, sulfite is a well-established intermediate during reduced sulfur compound oxidation. Sulfite is generated in the cytoplasm by the reverse-acting dissimilatory sulfite reductase DsrAB. Many purple sulfur bacteria can even use externally available sulfite as a photosynthetic electron donor. Nevertheless, the exact mode of sulfite oxidation in these organisms is a ...

Quantitative Comparison of Tree Pairs Resulted from Gene and Protein Phylogenetic Trees for Sulfite Reductase Flavoprotein Alpha-Component and 5S rRNA and Taxonomic Trees in Selected Bacterial Species

Introduction: FAD is the cofactor of FAD-FR protein family. Sulfite reductase flavoprotein alpha-component is one of the main enzymes of this family. Based on applications of this enzyme in biotechnology and industry, it was chosen as the subject of evolutionary studies in 19 specific species. Method: Gene and protein sequences of sulfite reductase flavoprotein alpha-component, 5S rRNA sequence...

Thermolabile Sulfite Reductase from Salmonella pullorum'

The biochemical basis for sulfite accumulation by sulfate-using revertants of Salmonella pullorum was determined. All of the sulfate-using mutants isolated from wild-type S. pullorum accumulated sulfite when grown at 37 but not at 25 C. The specific activity of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADPH)-dependent sulfite reductase (H2S-NADP oxidoreductase, EC 1.8.1.2) and of reduced meth...
